Caring Ministries
|
|
Through a synergetic ministry of care effort, St. John's Parish Community brings a holistic approach and support to parishioner's physical and spiritual wellness. Parishioners engaged in this caring about ministry exemplify the shepherd role guarding, support, and reaching out to others in the parish community, especially those with special needs/concerns, the homebound, and those experiencing a serious life event change or hospitalization.

Call the parish office (717) 235-2156 between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for self, family member or friend if:
- Admitted to the hospital
- Serious illness or injury at home
- Chronic illness, cannot leave house
- Age or generalized weakness prevents "going out"
- Admitted to nursing home or rehabilitation center

Sacramental Visits
- Weekly: Extraordinary Ministers of Communion bring Holy Communion to those persons unable to attend Sunday Mass due to illness or frailty.
- First Friday: The Eucharist is brought to sick and homebound parishioners on the First Friday of each month.
- Reconciliation/Rite of Anointing: Requests for a priest to hear Confession or to administer the Sacrament of Anointing prior to hospitalization or serious illness should be made directly to the Parish Office.

Hospital Visits
- Whenever possible, parishioners are encouraged to notify the parish office prior to hospitalization. Upon admission, inform the hospital of your religious affiliation and the desire to be visited by the hospital chaplain who, upon request, will maintain contact with the parish pastoral staff.

Mass of Annoiting/Mass of remembrance
- A Mass of Anointing is held twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall. The Mass is held on a Sunday afternoon, fulfilling the Sunday obligation. During Mass, the Sacrament of Anointing is administered to annyone who is ill and wishes to be anointed. Consult the weekly bulletin for scheduled dates and times. A Mass of Remembrance is held annually to reflect and pray for deceased family members and parishioners who have died within the past year. This liturgy is traditionally held on All Soul's Day.

Card Ministry
- Volunteers send greetings from the parish community to those who are homebound, seriously ill, serving in the armed forces, and new parishioners. It is important to keep the parish office informed of what's happening within your family during crises and major life events.

Parish Health Ministry
- Professional caregivers provide information on health related issues, facilitate monthly blood pressure readings and periodic stroke assessment, provide first aid during parish events, sponsor flu inoculations and encourage a healthy lifestyle within community life.
